It’s the Tax Payers Money…

So let the tax payers decide.

Myself and Frank had an interesting conversation last week about how the current system of one man - one vote aint really working. Basically we the people don’t seem to pay enough attention to who we vote for. Some of us vote for all the wrong reasons. Some people don’t even bother their back sides to vote, yet reserve the right to avail of the benefits the state (sorry the tax payers) provide… free first, second and third level education, roads, social welfare, subsidised public transport, health care etc etc

I’ve seen the other side, politicians pandering to those who come looking for favors… my daughter and her baby needs a house, I want a medical card -even though I’m not entitled to it! So people who don’t deserve the support of the state (sorry the tax payer) are getting it and those seeking office are facilitating this misallocation of funds in order to get elected.

So the system is broken. I’ve got a suggestion to fix it. One that is fair on those who deserve fairness most of all… those footing the bill.

My suggestion is a simple one. It’s still one man - one vote but the votes are weighted. Weighted based on the amount of personal tax paid by the individual in the 12 months leading up to the election. The beauty of the plan is that those who only take from the system won’t get to decide how the money they didn’t work hard to earn is spent. If the mega rich want to have a say they will have to start paying a bit of tax too!!!

It’s a sort of capitalist socialism where the PAYE worker, the back bone of the economy, rules supreme.

I await your questions and comments!

Se7en. The directors cut.

Friday, June 29th, 2007 by Frank

David Fincher is releasing a version of Se7en the way it was intended to be before the studios cut it to pieces changing the meaning of it. Looks great, up there with Elizabethtown I’d say.

Heh heh heh, hope you enjoy this Eoin:D

Joyball not coming soon to a TV near you.

Stumbled on this one thanks to Lorcy’s comment on the Clamnut’s blog. it’s from a rejected pilot for an RTE comedy sketch show. Ok, I can see why it was rejected because to be honest it doesn’t quite cut it. But at the same time I felt at least it was trying!

It reminds me a bit too much though of a sketch that, i think it was Bif showed me… but I can’t remember what it was… a British sketch about a couple who’s child is missing, only the British one was funnier.

UPDATE: Bif let me know this was what I was thinking of. Watch it after the above!

For humour go to see this (If you’re in Cork, Ireland).

Be Alert - The Threat of Humour is Everywhere!

threat of humour

Actually, it’s not everywhere, it’s at the Cork Arts Theatre for the Cork Midsummer Festival. I went last night. Highly recommended, I don’t know what to tell you really except I laughed a lot. The Threat of Humour consists of comedy sketches presided over by John F. McCarthy of Hammergrin Productions. They range from the wonderful comic songs of Katie Holly who has an incredible voice to the unveiling of ‘Own’: the Boy Who Never Laughs.

There is the wonderful interpretive dance piece which tells the story of Gaire the ancient Irish princess who falls in love with a suitor too jovial to be a future king, two short films and an appearance by Cork actor Cormac Costello.

I knew a lot of the people involved, but the whole audience seemed to be hysterically laughing, not just me so I can safely assume that it wasn’t just my familiarity with the personalities involved that was amusing.

John F. McCarthy informed me “I was very pleased when i heard you laughing. It means we’re hitting that minority sense of humour.”

Anyone else there last night? Any comments?
