I used to be a big fan of 2000AD, and Bob Byrne has started to revived my interest in it recently. There’s no doubt that it spawned some of the greatest characters ever in comics. It also kick-started so many careers and inspired more people to get into comics, than any other title I can think of.

I guess if you lived in the UK or Ireland, it was a very real thing to aspire to get your work into it. Much more so than a kid living in the states deciding they want to work for DC. I remember managing to get the editor Steve MacManus (tharg) on the phone to discuss which art colleges were best for studying comic art. I doubt you’d get past the front desk with DC.

Anyway, I was just sent this through, and thought it might appeal to anyone out there who read 2000AD in the time before Simon Bisley got lazy.

It’s just a fan trailer, but it puts 300 to shame.

Update - check out the rest of the fan films here. Particularly like the arkham asylum (though the Joker isn’t quite right). These have been kicking around for a while, so sorry if you’ve seen them before.

Came across this via Eddie Campbell’s blog.
Brian Dettmer carves into books revealing the artwork inside, creating complex layered three-dimensional sculptures.
Check them out here, really simple idea, but really nicely done.

GARAGE the new film by Leonard Abrahamson and Mark Halloran is coming to cinemas in Ireland on October the 5th.

Regarded by his neighbours as a harmless misfit, Josie (Pat Shortt) has spent all his adult life as the caretaker of a crumbling petrol station on the outskirts of a small town in the mid-west of Ireland. He is limited, lonely, yet relentlessly optimistic and, in his own peculiar way, happy. GARAGE follows Josie’s hapless search for intimacy over the course of a summer which sees his life changed forever.

While it isn’t playing for laughs to the same extent as the creators previous film Adam & Paul, it’s still pretty funny, albeit in a fairly understated way. The trailer below, sums it up pretty well, and while Garage is a bit harrowing at times, it’s all in all well worth checking out.

Occasionally you come across something on youtube that you really want to stick on your iPod. Or maybe you come across a video that you just know isn’t going to remain on-line for too long. There are plenty of methods and tools out there to pull down the content and convert it to whatever format you want, but this is by far the handiest method I’ve come across.

You basically just copy and paste the url into the text entry box at the top of the page (not limited to youtube videos), select whether you want it for your ipod, computer or phone, and it does the rest. This makes downloading content a lot more accessible to a lot of people, I can only guess Google or Adobe will find a way to prevent it working either legally or technically, so enjoy it while you can.
