JJ Abrams does Star Trek and casts Spock

Thursday, August 9th, 2007 by Eoin

For those of you who don’t know JJ Abrams, creator of Lost and Alias, is to produce and direct a new Star Trek film. The 11th to be precise. Although it doesn’t have an official title other than Star Trek XI, I doubt it will be called that as it is a prequel. Yes ladies and gentlemen it’s back to the days of Kirk and Spock, but not as we know them. It is their academy days.

Casting breakdowns have appeared on Ain’t It Cool

[UHURA] 25ish -African American. Brilliant, beautiful, heroic and FUN!, Uhura is almost tom-boyish - as if she grew up in a houseful of brothers.

The big news though, is that Spock has been cast and it’s Zachary Quinto from Heroes. I don’t know much about him as I don’t watch Heroes, but I’ve been told it’s good and it’s on my to-do list. I’ll report back if I ever get round to watching it. He looks the part though.

I think this film is going to be good!

Justice League has a director?

Wednesday, August 8th, 2007 by Eoin

The rumours are rife that the Justice League movie is to be directed by George Miller! Yes ladies and gentlemen the man that brought us Babe and Happy Feet is to direct a film about Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, The Flash and Green Lantern.

Of course he also directed the Mad Max trilogy!

There’s also talk that Warner Brother’s are making the Justice League a higher priority than the Superman Returns Sequel, Superman:The Man of Steel which is due out Summer 2009, that Christian Bale and Brandon Routh have clauses in their contracts tying them to a Superman Vs. Batman film and so might be contracted to the Justice League, and that the Justice League film will feature a superhero death.

If that’s not enough to keep you going for now try this fan video.

Comic Con has become one of the big industry events in Hollywood and this year its status was confirmed when they were treated to a look at the cast of Indiana Jones 4. I thought ye might be interested in a look.

Liverpool Sign Ryan Babel

Thursday, July 12th, 2007 by Eoin

Ryan Babel today agreed personal terms and passed his medical but unusually the two clubs are yet to agree on a fee. Liverpool have offered £10m and Ajax want £13m. I guess he’ll sign for £11.5m!

babeldm1107_468x642.jpgI’ve been holding off on posting because of the strangeness about the fee. The picture to the right convinced me it’s a done deal though.

Ryan Babel is a Dutch U-21 player who Van Basten said was the “next Henry.” I don’t like it when people call someone the next anything but I can see the similarities. At Liverpool he will be used mostly as a left-winger but there’s no reason why he can’t emulate Henry who started his Arsenal career on the left wing too.

It looks like Babel’s signature means the end of the attacking purchases for Liverpool this summer. I’m refusing to give up on Quaresma until the transfer window closes but it’s highly unlikely that there will be anything other than some defensive cover brought in between now and then.

Whether Babel is the answer, only time will tell. I would have preffered to see a more experienced out-and-out winger brought in but I trust that Rafa knows what suits his plans best. Ryan Babel is a good player and I’m glad to see him arriving. He might just turn out to be the biggest signing of the summer!

This signing continues a trend of goalscorers joining Liverpool this summer. Goals from all over the pitch was another problem last season. Rafa has addressed nearly all the problems from last season now.

Roll on August and Villa away…
