Cabin In The Woods could be interesting

There’s a film slated for release in February 2010. Sounds like a boring horror, doesn’t it?

What if I told you that Joss “Buffy” “Serenity” Whedon and Drew Goddard (Lost, Cloverfield, Buffy) are writing, with Whedon producing and Goddard making his directing debut. On top of that Richard Jenkins is already cast and they’re in discussions with Bradley Whitford (West Wing, Studio 60) to take the other lead role. They will play “white-collar co-workers with a mysterious connection to the cabin”.

This quote from Goddard is why I’m interested in this project.

“It’s really just your basic typecasting: When you need two actors to run through the woods in low-cut nighties, you immediately think of Richard Jenkins and Bradley Whitford”

X-Men Origins: Wolverine

When I first saw X-Men I would have loved to see a Wolverine film, but X2 and 3 got steadily worse and I am now afraid they’ll ruin it. Had they brought back Brian Singer I would be much more enthusiastic.

The teaser trailer looks good enough but I refuse to get my hopes up for this film. I will be going to see it when it arrives in the summer though.

Colin Farrell and Gabriel Byrne last night won Golden Globes for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture – Musical Or Comedy and Best Performance by an Actor In A Television Series – Drama.

Farrell’s award comes for his performance in Martin McDonagh’s excellent In Bruges. Although he won’t be up for next month’s Oscars the Globe will be a big boost to his own career and further raises the profile of Irish films.

Gabriel Byrne won for HBO’s In Treatment. I haven’t seen the show but in TV terms the Globes and the Emmy’s are the closest thing you can get to an Oscar.

In other Golden Globe news Slumdog Millionair was the big winner, walking away with Best Picture – Drama, Best Director for Danny Boyle, Best Screenplay and Best Score. Following on from it’s win at the Critics Choice Arards, Millionaire is now the favourite to win the best Picture Oscar.

Kate Winslet announced her intention to give Angelina Jolie a run for her money by winning not one but both Best Actress – Drama, and Best Supporting Actress. As expected Mickey Rourke and Heath Ledger won Best Actor – Drama and Best Supporting Actor, respectively.
