Here is another bulletin with lots of interesting possibilities for
everybody, not only in Cork but in Dublin and other places around the
country. Brilliant stuff!
I am helping to organize 3 different Intensive workshops this summer in Barcelona based on the work of Jacques LeCoq.
The teachers are Simon Edwards & Marian Masoliver. They both trained with Jacques Le Coq in Paris and worked all around the world as performers, directors and drama teachers.
I have trained with them in the last two years and the quality was so high and the workshop so enjoyable, that I started helping them with the organization of the workshops because I wanted to get more people to know about them and go to train with them. Last year more than 25 people went to do these workshops from Ireland and the feedback from these participants has been fantastic throughout. It was a great success!!
I am helping with the organization of a ‘A Sliver of Voice’ workshop in Cork for the middle of February. The facilitators are Maia Monaco and Guillermo Pessoa, from Buenos Aires, Argentina. During the month of February they will be in Ireland facilitating workshops and performing their show.
‘A Sliver of Voice’ is a workshop devised by prominent Buenos Aires performer, poet and singer Maia Monaco which focuses on exploring the colours, intensities and textures of the voice and on movement and contemporary dance techniques for expressing music and emotion. Monaco
shares her own devised techniques for sonic meditation, which she terms ‘the vibration of the infinite voice’, focussing on exercises in vocal technique and basic guidelines for improvisation that feed the imagination and amplify hearing.
Incorporating the techniques of Guillermo Pesoa to explore connections between music and theatrical performance, workshops will enhance the participants’ abilities to connect music, emotion and movement, and to improvise instinctively from music.
The workshop begins with bodily warm-ups and stretches to improve awareness of posture, relaxation and responsiveness. They then move on to exercises in vocal technique and basic guidelines of improvisation.
Different vocal qualities are explored such as ‘the voice in repose’, ‘the voice in speech’, ‘the animal voice’, ‘the agitated voice’, ‘the ritual voice’, with emphasise on breath and pulse as the basis of the voice, employing percussion accompaniment. Pesoa will introduce basic principles of musical analysis and composition; exploring music-based performance through a series of physical and vocal tasks and exercises based on rhythmic units, music dynamics, music structure and tempo.
