Jon Stewart’s Torture Talk

Monday, February 18th, 2008 by Frank

I don’t watch much TV, but sometimes I have a flick around and see what’s on and every now and then I catch the Daily Show, with Jon Stewart. There’s a section on the show called torture talk which is pure genius.

Here’s some clips from the excellent Daily Show website.

Who would you vote for in the US?

Wednesday, February 6th, 2008 by Dave

Well… its all getting very exciting in the States. The level of interest in this years primary season is unprecedented this side of the Atlantic. Even at work my politically agnostic colleagues are debating the ups and downs of each candidate’s progress…

So I put to you loyal Bifsniffers… predict the winner! I’ll settle for a Republican and Democratic nominee for now, but if anyone is willing I’ll accept outright winners too!

For the record I’d like to see Barak Obama take the oath on Jan 20th 2009!

Two Tits and a Vote…

Two Tits

Sabrian Dent has launched Two Tits and a Vote. Two Tits and a Vote is:

an online Irish Women’s Health Campaign empowering you to advocate for better women’s healthcare in Ireland. You can be part of improving Irish women’s health care from the comfort of your very own chair.

Sabrina on her own site states…

It’s built around the concept of “armchair activism.” Armchair activism enjoys reasonable take-up online, but is often decried as ultimately being rather useless because it rarely translates into the real world. I started to think a lot about how to merge all of the good stuff about armchair activism - it’s fast, it’s accessible, it’s not a big ask, and it delivers a feel-good factor to the participant - with actions that could actually take form in the real world.

Anything at all that keeps a focus on the sorry state of women’s healthcare, and healthcare in general, in this country is good in my book. Sorry to all those who in a couple of weeks time arrive here from google expecting some kind of political porn.

Irish Government want access to all your internet communications…

The proposed law will require Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to keep records of every email, every instant message or chat message, and every time users log on or log off, and to store that information for up to 18 months. This information will then be available without any court order or warrant.

Noticed on Damien’s blog, Digital Rights Ireland are bringing to our attention this Big Brother like move… read about it and freak out.

I’ve unsubscribed. Or something. Anyway, I don’t condone the use of torture.

Amnesty International bring us this petition against the violation of human rights in the ongoing ‘War On Terror’. I’ve signed it but still have no idea what *exactly* it’s supposed to achieve. Sign it anyway, it won’t do any harm.
