Not all voters are idiots. Vote for BifSniff.

Monday, July 2nd, 2007 by Frank

I completely forgot that I had nominated us for ‘best Blog About Stuff’ in the Bloggers Choice Awards. Since I did we have received 0 votes. I would imagine that’s because I forgot to tell anyone to vote for us. So, er, vote for us, please.

My site was nominated for Best Blog About Stuff!

The winners won’t be announced till October anyway, so plenty of time to rack up votes - why not nominate your own blog and try to scoop a meaningless blog award you can brag about?

Long time commenter joins the ranks…

Welcome aboard Dave! Dave has been commenting on political posts in particular here on BifSniff for quite some time now. You might remember him from such posts as Redefining Honour, We got it wrong. Can we have another go?, and of course the classic Vote to minimise ethnic and racial differences in ireland which got 92 comments.

Dave will mostly be posting current afairsy type stuff I imagine, political stuff and the like. Dave is a self professed FG man and he and I don’t always see eye to eye but we have enough common ground that I think we can all coexist peacefully enough here on BifSniff.com.

Besides, it’s better when we argue because it makes for long comment threads which makes the place seem more lively! :P

So welcome Dave, now that you’ve lost your blog post virginity it’s all plain sailing from here!

A matter of collecting a debt!

You know if you have a TV, you must have a TV licence? Well you must, that’s the law. The government spend quiet a few quid sending out inspectors to make sure we all cough up. It’s fair enough really, even if it’s a little expensive. If you are a bold boy or girl however and “forget to pay you licence fee… well then as those expensive ads with Podge and Rodge tell us you can face a fine or even jail. And yes they actually do send people to jail for not paying their licence fee a mere €130 or there about!

But if you are a TD, returning to the bosom of the Fianna Fail party (after being thrown out for the minor matter of facilitating tax evasion) and you own, lets say €2.5m… well then you get your bill halved, your boyfriend pays for it, the tax payer pays the rest and you get a junior ministry! What a country… good job the Greens are there cleaning up the Fianna Fail act.

Damien Mulley is just too damn successful.

Damiens Sky Handling Partners story (as posted about just recently) made the front page of Digg.

Which sent LOADS of traffic his way, bringing Sky Handling Gobshites terrible customer service to the attention of god knows how many people… EXCEPT… so many people tried to read about it that it killed Damien’s site.

Ouch.

With so many people blogging these days and praying they make the front page of Digg or other social network sites, who is actually prepared for the onslought of traffic?

How do we get stories like these to the attention of enough people without killing our websites?

Answers on a postcard please. Or comment below.

Update: Damien’s site seems to be up again, so it was down for about an hour give or take. I assume somebody at the hosting end sorted him out - anyone want to comment? I’m curious ab()out this end of things in case someday I post something that drives traffic to this tumbleweed infested plain… :D

Update: Damien’s site down again (2.30am) - this time because the traffic used up all his bandwidth. :(
Ah the trials of success.

Update: So it seems that Damien’s site was only down for 15 minutes before his host (and ours) moved him to a super server to keep his site up! Would you host sort you out like that in the middle of the night? Serious question!

Sky Handling Partners vs Mulley.net

Wednesday, June 20th, 2007 by Frank

Damien Mulley had his baggage go awol and the crowd who were supposed to be in charge of it, Sky Handling Partners handled the whole thing really badly.

Now, to make matters worse, somebody is joining dating sites using Damien’s details and posting what Damien refers to as ‘interesting’ profiles about him.

That somebody just might be Sky Handling Partners, possibly after realising Damien had blogged about his negative experience in dealing with them.

Think about the last time you dealt with someone’s ‘customer service’ representative and wanted to reach down the line, down their throat and pull out their vocal chords and thus prevent them from talking absolute bullshit to anyone ever again - well, that might not be possible but at least we can all link to Damien’s post about this and hopefully pressure the fuckers into actually resolving this satisfactorily.
