Violent Acres gives the finger to the blog police.

Tuesday, February 27th, 2007 by Frank

Violent Acres is an anonymous blog that has been fast becoming unbelievably popular. It contains controversial, polarised views & stories written by someone who puts themselves forward as a married woman in her early thirties.

Everybody wants to know who VA is, and why they do what they do. Except me. I don’t care.

I just want to talk to you about comments, but before I do I want to share two posts from VA that I quite liked about political correctness and racism:

Now, about comments. Over at my day job I wrote a post about comments and the fact that how you manage your comments is up to you - it’s your blog.

A blog, if you ask me, is a set of writings presented in a reverse chronological order. Commenting is an optional extra.

What does this have to do with Violent Acres?

I liked this, from the FAQ:

9. Why don’t you allow comments on your site? Why don’t you post your email address?

Well, I think that’s pretty obvious, don’t you?

Because I don’t want to interact with you.

I don’t want to feel obligated to reply to your boring emails. I don’t want to take time out of my day to moderate your silly little comments. I don’t want to run in your cliquey high school social circles and I don’t want to be a part of your immature little Internet wars. I don’t want to be your friend.

Networking is just a fancy way to say ass kissing and a link from you is not important enough to me that I’d actually pretend to like you. Besides, I don’t need my virtual dick sucked to feel good about myself in the morning.

By the time you read this, it may already be too late…

Search Engine Optimisation - or ‘Red Cardinal’s risky offer!’

Monday, February 12th, 2007 by Frank

Red CardinalWow, this is going to be interesting. Red Cardinal has offered some basic SEO consultation to EVERY long-list nominee in the Irish Blog awards.

Now, being the cynic that I am I couldn’t help but spot the marvelous marketing strategy behind this - it’s brilliant, but then that’s evidence of why I nominated his blog for ‘Best Business Blog’, as I’m sure plenty of others did.

So first of all, what does Red Cardinal get out of this very generous offer?

Red Cardinal has stipulated some rules that will not harm his profile at all:

Did I write the best blog post in Ireland this year? Decide for yourself… but the answer is Yes.

blog awardThe nominees have been posted and the voting form is ready to go. And I think Damien will be releasing links to the various blogs and blog posts soon.

UPDATE! The list of links to all the blogs and blog posts is now available…

The biggest (pleasant) surprise for me was that a post of mine was nominated for best blog post - the post in question is my post on Hugleikur Dagsson’s cartoons ‘Should You Be Laughing At This?

It’s a post I’m proud of, and whatever happens it was certainly nice to have been nominated - especially without prompting from me!

In total we were nominated in six categories:

  1. Best Blog
  2. Best Blog Post
  3. Most Humourous Post (Two of our cartoons nominated.)
  4. Best Arts and Culture Blog
  5. Best Group Blog
  6. Best Designed Blog

Most of those categories puts us up against very stiff competition, and they’re only the ones I’m familiar with such as Blogorrah ,TCAL and Green Ink - all of which I even nominated myself, but it would be nice to win in one of the categories, so here it is - the begging:

Please, please, please go and vote for BifSniff in at least one of the above categories. Click here and vote now!

I hope a list of links to the various nominees does go up, because there looks to be some great exploring of blogs I’m not familiar with to be done.

I will leave you with the two cartoons of ours that are nominated in Most Humourous Post:

Spyware…
spyware
A dry white seasoning…
A Dry White Seasoning

Help us win an award! :)

OscarAs Bif already noted, the Irish Blog Awards have opened the nominations process. We’d like to win an award. We’d like your help.

I already nominated for just about every category I thought we in any way fitted into, but an obvious category for us is ‘most humorous post’.

I nominated several of our cartoons, and I’d love if you could do the same. For one thing, you are probably a better judge than me of what our best toons are.

Please, if you have a moment, have a look through our cartoons and nominate something from the last year.

I nominated a few myself, including ‘Christmas Time‘, ‘A Dry White Seasoning‘ and ‘Spyware‘.
