Cork Lifelong Learning Festival
March 27th, 2007 by Frank
The Lifelong Learning Festival kicked off yesterday in Cork (Ireland), does anyone know it’s on? It seems very low profile - or maybe it’s just that I’m too much stuck at my computer!
Anyway it runs from Monday 26th or March to Sunday 1st April (2007) and there’s loads on so it’s worth taking a look at the program. All the events are free and I genuinely think there’s something for everyone in there, I’m not just quoting from a pamphlet here
For example today, Tuesday the 27th, the Cork Environmental Forum are showing Environmental films from 12 noon to 9pm and it sounds like there’s some really interesting titles in there such as ‘The Power of Community‘ and ‘The Future of Food‘. The films will be shown in the Lifetime Lab on the Lee Road - I’m not sure where that is but you can call 028 37884 for details.
There’s all kinds of other events on, like ‘How to Start in the Gym’, ‘Try Basketball’, ‘Dance Classes for Adults’, Lunchtime concerts, ‘Discover a little About Lithuania’, ‘A Batty Walk in the Park’, ‘Learn About Eugenics’, ‘Growing Up in China’, ‘Learn Some Basic IT Skills’, ‘Writing Skills Workshop’ and LOADS of stuff for Children too.
All free.

First I heard of it too! It sounds interesting but I’m a little taken up with baby things at the moment. Next year?

ops. sorry Rich..
Donncha, yeah I thin it’s an annual affair… pity there isn’t more of a fuss about it… mind you I tried in vain to get a schedule for the films today - maybe if I had seen about it sooner, but it seems crazy that I couldn’t find one anywhere and only got the answering machine when I tried calling the number.

Hi all,
The 5th Lifelong learning festival is underway at the moment. Sorry no-one was available at the office when you rang last year - during the festival we have over 230 events to supervise, but there should’ve been someone at the phone too. searching the web for ‘learningfestival’ at any time will bring you to the full brochure, plus it’s in all libraries, community centres and from the kiosk smack bang in the middle of Patricks Street all week. The Echo and Examiner have also done ‘highlights of’ articles over the past few days so if that doesn’t reach you….?! Incidentally, we also run a science exhibition for kids during science week, so if any of you are professional geeks I’d love to do something this year on blogging…
