Irish Cancer Society - Daffodil Day

March 23rd, 2007 by Frank
Daffodil Day

Donncha O’Caoimh brought my attention to the fact that today is Daffodil Day, a fundraising day for the Irish Cancer Society:

Every daffodil helps the Irish Cancer Society provide quality care and emotional support to cancer patients and their families through our free, nationwide nursing services.

Donncha has made headers from one of his own photos (small version pictured) which can be used easily with the Kubrick WordPress theme to raise awareness.

I headed on over to the Irish Cancer Society website and made a donation online - quick and painless and something good done for the day!

Every donation, regardless how big or how small, is a significant gift, and enables us to provide more care for more people with cancer. Use our simple secure form to make a donation to the Irish Cancer Society now.

Eh…I realise I have violated loads of terms of their linking policy so I’ll take links down if asked by an Irish Cancer Society official, but I don’t have a fax machine and somebody please tell them how much this policy could hurt awareness of the society.

All praise to the society for their flag day. However, watch out for the Romanians selling bunches of daffodils on Patrick’s Street (flowers they picked from public places) trying to cash in on this fund raising drive. In short don’t be fooled into giving money to anyone with a deep sun tan and gold teeth. Of all the recent immigrants to Ireland these are the most brazen, shameless and parasitic. They bring nothing to a society other than devious scams and thievery. That said, some of their musicians are very talented and are good buskers. The rest should be deported.

  3. martin Says:

Sorry, when I said deported I meant gassed.

  4. Frank (author) Says:

A lot of people are very anti the Romanians… I can’t say I feel the same way… I hear a lot of stories that sound like urban legends etc… until someone gives me cold hard evidence or first hand experience that I can trust I’ll treat them like any other person hassling me for money on the steets!

  5. Eoin Says:

Martin, I don’t agree and either way it’s not the time or the place. Having recently lost someone to Cancer myself, I think we should stay on topic.

    Support the Irish Cancer Society.

  6. martin Says:

But why are they here Frank? What benefit is it to us to have unqualified people, stateless mendicants with a culture of thievery and lawlessness in the case of Romanian Gypsies coming here? Answer me that. What good does it do? How does it enrich Irish society? A good immigration policy, one that works in the interests of the host nation, is one that vets applicants and attracts people who add to the society here. Not people who cause trouble. These gypsies are so guilelessly beggarly they’re almost ridiculous. The only people to benefit from an influx of thieving gypsies are the gypsies themselves and the immigration industry/immigrants’ rights lobby who depend on immigrants for their non-productive sinecures. I can tell you stories if you want Frank, I can give you evidence but you shouldn’t even need me to; let logic guide your thoughts for once regarding this issue open your own eyes, take the politically correct blinkers off, and the next time you see a Romanian Gypsy begging on the streets of Cork with a child in here arms ask yourself what good this is doing for Ireland.

Comment edited by Frank as potentially being offensive.

  8. Frank (author) Says:

Martin that last comment is a bit much.

As for the previous one, a discussion for another post I think. To be continued, for now, as Eoin says Support the Irish Cancer Society.

  9. martin Says:

That’s what I said Frank, ‘All praise to the society for their flag day’, and, as a caveat, I advised people to be aware of unscrupulous elements trying to cash in on the good work the Irish Cancer Society are doing. But as usual, any discussion on immigration is swept under the carpet, to be dealt with at a later date……

  10. martin Says:

By the way Frank, having my comment removed ‘as being potentially offensive’, is I find, very offensive. Anything can be perceived as being ‘potentially offensive’, depending on who is doing the editing-your excision of my comment, which was in itself nothing but a sytanxical gambol was in complete denial of the rich tradition of sarcasm and irony that, dating from Swift et al., marks our free and open public discourse apart from those of lesser traditions. But that’s the way it is these days-agree with us or be damned.

Notwithstanding the Romanian conversation, I just noticed their linking policy. Daft, daft, daft. What were they thinking? Or more likely, what was some legal advisor thinking?

  12. Frank (author) Says:

It’s insane. Just spotted your post - I wonder if they even police their own policy, ie will they spot the referrals coming in… :D

  13. Richard Hearne Says:

Yeah, sorry I picked this up over on FirstPartners blog and had to find a few minutes to vent. Then someone commented that you had mentioned it before. BTW you nofollow all your comments Frank?

  14. Frank (author) Says:

WordPress default, never thought about changing it to be honest…
Probably should think about it seeing as they’re reasonably moderated.
    Thanks!

  15. Frank (author) Says:

The whole comment nofollow one is an interesting one… not sure where I stand on it. A subject for another blog post perhaps :D
