Irish Charities – psst pass it on.
June 27th, 2007 by FrankSo there’s a chain letter-ish kind of thing going on where someone tags you and you have to list some Irish charities and add your own. I normally don’t do this kind of thing, but that’s because nobody ever asks me to. Sniff.
But Tom involved me in this one so I’m in with the in crowd now!!! And it does some good for charities maybe so that’s an added bonus.
I have to list the charities so far, add my own and pass it on. Here’s the list so far:
- MS Society Ireland
- Irish Red Cross
- Samaritans
- Cancer.ie – Irish Cancer Society
- Irish Hospice Foundation – Hospice and palliative care in Ireland
- Barnardos – Ireland’s leading children’s charity The Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity – Polish Charity
- CPR For Schools Across Poland – CPRTraining
- Program of Insulin Pumps in Diabetic Children Therapy – Insulin Pumps For Children
- Non-invasive Neonatal Breathing Support – Infant Flow
- Program of Universal Neonatal Hearing Screenings – Neonatal Hearing
- American Red Cross – disaster relief
- Raleigh Rescue Mission – homeless raleigh
- Samaritan’s Purse – emergency relief programs
- St. Jude Children’s Hospital – cancer research
- Medecins Sans Frontieres / Doctors Without Borders – Humanitarian Relief
- American Red Cross – Emergency Preparedness
- AMREF – African Medical & Research Foundation – African Health Development
- DOROT – Programs for Elderly
- Feed the Children – Protect Children
- Service International – Disaster Relief
- Pujols Family Foundation – Children with Down Syndrome
- National Alliance to End Homelessness – Homelessness
- The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research – Parkinson’s Research
- Ronald McDonald Care Mobile Program – Child Healthcare
- Aids Research Alliance – Aids Research
- Wildlife Conservation Society – Wildlife Protection
- Cancer Research Institute – Cancer Research
- Second Harvest – End Hunger
- AARP Foundation – Helping Senior Citizens
- Bubblegum Club – Children In Crisis
- Autism NI – Autism Northern Ireland
- Adoption Ireland – Irish Adoption Charity
- Ireland Funds – Peace and Reconciliation In Ireland
- Dublin Simon Community – Combating Homelessness in Dublin
- Aware
- To Russia with Love
- Debra Ireland
And here are my additions:
I think maybe I’m meant to add five, but I would have added Barnardos and the Irish Cancer Society but they’re already there. Other than that I can’t think of any others right now.
Maybe these guys will think of more:
- Green Ink
- My sister Jane
- Adam Maguire
- The Bifster (he’ll probably hate me for tagging him, but it’s for a good cause…)
- Adam Beecher

Ah Frank, spreading viral crap? For shame.
What’s worse is, I can’t believe you added the asthma society, from what I can tell they’re useless. Please correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems, they do nothing constructive at all.
As far as I can tell they basically just collect money on street corners to promote asthma awareness (this seems pointless at a local level).
During my 30 years as an asthmatic I’ve phoned them a couple of times with queries relating to asthma management and they’ve been f*ck all use.

I’m lost….what’s the good cause in listing charities ?

I think the idea behind this is to boost the number of links into the charities websites and thereby increase their Google juice which could mean better search results in Google etc for them.
It also raises awareness among the blogging community, while I don’t think many will click through each and every one, the ones that have been added in each subsequent post would have a good chance of being clicked on.
It’s not the best idea I ever heard, because the quality of the links isn’t great due to it being a list of links, but it’s probably better than nothing as at least they’re all related. Also while everyone posting the same block of links has limited value in Google the addition of new ones each time means at least it’s not exactly the same block each time.
So, I figured if there was a chance of helping give their sites a boost it was worth doing.
As for the Asthma Society I haven’t had any first hand dealings with them I have to admit I just figured they had to be doing some good!

fair enough.
I’ll take my anti-asthma society crusade elsewhere.

Thanks for taking part Frank. As you said, its to pass on some link juice which in turn helps the sites with better exposure on the Search Engines.
