Vote for Segolene Royal…
April 23rd, 2007 by FrankOver the weekend the French voted in the first round and it was (by all accounts) no big surprise that conservative Nicolas Sarkozy and socialist Segolene Royal are the two candidates who will go head to head in the second round.
Daniel O’Neill pointed out this lovely simple quote from another blog:
The reasons ‘for supporting Royal can be summed up in two words: Nicolas Sarkozy.
So I know who I’d be voting for if I was in France, but here at home I still have no firm idea…

On my last visit to France one name kept coming up in conversation in cafes and bars and that was Sarkozy. People seemed to think he was the only one you would actually do something to wake up a slumbering France. His handling of the Paris riots also attracted admiration. If Le Pen’s votes go to Sarkozy then I can’t see Royal winning.

I think it’s quite possible you are right Martin, but one can hope.
Are you joking about his handling of the riots? I hope so.
Who would you cast your vote for? Sarkozy might indeed wake up a slumbering France, much in the same way Bush has been waking up a slumbering America…

Haven’t a clue Frank. Still don’t know who to vote for here, any list of candidates announced yet?

Haven’t a clue… and no idea who I’ll vote for either…
I was trying to convince Ed to run the other day. Not that I’d vote for him or anything…

I can vote twice! I’m on the register in Cork North Central, at my parent’s house, and I’m on the register in Cork South Central where I live now. Nuts, eh?

And that was purely accidental, by the way. Imagine if I tried to defraud the system with intent-I could probably vote thousands of times.

I’d vote for me If I wasn’t such a spa.

Can anyone help me? My Mozilla Firefox and tied in Google have become German versions. I even uninstalled it and then downloaded it again but on running it reverted to the German language version. The Google address in the browser window is google.de for Germany. Any ideas why this might be and how I can get the English language version back?

how odd… could your regional settings on your machine be set to Germany?
You should find regional settings in your control panel…

That’s not it Frank, that’s set to Ireland. I don’t know what it is. Could I have pressed some button by mistake, or could there be something wrong with Firefox at the moment?
April 24th, 2007 at 12:11 am
And my Internet Explorer is still running the Irish version. Can’t figure it out. As I said, I downloaded the whole thing afresh and on first running it jumped into German mode.

Just changed preferences in the Mozilla Box to English and that’s put Firefox back to English. The Google is still going .de though.
April 24th, 2007 at 12:34 am
What do you mean Mozilla Box?
There’s a language option in Firefox alright under tools - options
Depends on what version you have then, it’s either under ‘general’ or advanced’ depending on version…
Check under tools - options for what your homepage is set to for the Google issue…

hi Frank, thanks for your suggestions. I think it must have been a Google problem because Brian downstairs had the same trouble and another friend I rang saw his google turn to google.ie. Just booted up now and it’s back to the .ie version so the problem must have been recitifed.

I do believe you are discrediting Nicolas Sarkozy by crediting Royal who absolutely has no substance.
There goes your vote: inutile…
April 26th, 2007 at 1:31 pm
Don’t be ridiculous. Any vote cast cannot be inutile.
If I was French, and was voting for Royal, I don’t care if she actually had no substance, in fact I don’t care if she was kermit the frog - I’d still vote for her if she was up against Sarkozy.
I read your recent article, don’t you think it makes a certain amount of sense to court the votes most likely to swing to you?
You’re far more informed than I am, but you’re odd analysis just doesn’t add up for me.
Thanks for commenting, I don’t agree with you but it’s good to get all sides!
