In Iraq, when they had their first elections, people queued for hours, risking bombs and bullets to vote and you're giving me drivel about pampered Bebo generation students who in the main have no interest in politics anyway. Why don't they register in the constituency where they're living for the four years they're studying? That's where the day to day issues of political life will impact on them most. Well, without missing classes anyway... My point is that Bertie made a big deal about his timing elections so that the younger voters would be encouraged to vote.
