Colour Lovers – inspiration is at hand!
May 16th, 2008 by Frank
As our regular audience on BifSniff dwindles (hello Googlers!) it’s nice to know exactly who each post is aimed at, and this one is for janie
ColourLovers.com is both a brilliant and beautifully designed site.
I haven’t even begun to explore half the functionality, but I have been using it to develop colour pallettes when designing. During the design process you can get pretty colour jaded and lose sight of what’s working and new ways of discovering colours.
ColourLovers allows you to use a photograph as a point of reference and begin to build a pallette based on the colours in the photo. It’s pure genius and gets the creative juices kickstarted if you’re in a rut!
Here’s my profile, I’ve only just begun to use it, so my pallettes are limited, but I am getting the hang of it!
Also, I found a great tutorial linked to on ColourLovers which shows how to create repeating patterns. Cool.

Wow Amazing site, Love the post about the origins of the names of some colours, like scarlet being a Persian word for rich something or other,I’ll have to go back I’ve forgotten already!
Thanks for the heads up Frank, I’m off to create some colour palettes.
