Irish feature strongly in Oscar Nominations
January 24th, 2008 by EoinThe nominations for the 80th Academy Awards were announced yesterday and there was a health smattering of Irish nominees.

Daniel Day-Lewis got the expected Best Actor nomination for There Will Be Blood and is now the favourite to win, Saoirse Ronan got a nomination for her part in Atonement but it’s hard to see past Cate Blanchet for this year’s Best Supporting Actress award. Most surprising of all was Glen Hansard getting nominated for Falling Slowly from Once in Best Original Song. He was tipped to get a nomination but didn’t feature in the Golden Globes. Well he has the Oscar nomination now and will be performing Falling Slowly as part of the ceremony (if it goes ahead!). He might yet walk away with the little bald statue come February 24th. They won a Sundance award after all.

Who do you think will win best actor. They cant keep giving them to Daniel Day Lewis. I personnaly would like to see Depp get one. I saw Sweeney Todd he was just ok did remind me of bowie. But for previous performances like Finding Neverland and the Libertine he has been over looked. The Coen Brothers for everything else love their work.

I can’t see past Daniel Day Lewis for this years Best Actor. He’s only won it once before, for My Left Foot in 1989.

He was always going to win that one even if he didn’t win any of the others. If there so much as a suspicion of a British connection you win a BAFTA!

Tell that to Keira Knightly.
