JJ Abrams does Star Trek and casts Spock
August 9th, 2007 by EoinFor those of you who don’t know JJ Abrams, creator of Lost and Alias, is to produce and direct a new Star Trek film. The 11th to be precise. Although it doesn’t have an official title other than Star Trek XI, I doubt it will be called that as it is a prequel. Yes ladies and gentlemen it’s back to the days of Kirk and Spock, but not as we know them. It is their academy days.
Casting breakdowns have appeared on Ain’t It Cool

PARAMOUNT PICTURES/BAD ROBOT[JAMES KIRK] 23-29 Handsome, cocky self assured and earnest. Great physical condition. 6 ft or less
[LEONARD(BONES)MCOY] -28-32 Medic on the Enterprise. Smart, clever and a bit danger-loving. Dark hair, blue eyes.
[UHURA] 25ish -African American. Brilliant, beautiful, heroic and FUN!, Uhura is almost tom-boyish - as if she grew up in a houseful of brothers.
[SULU] 25-32 -Asian American male (preferably Japanese). Helmsman on the Enterprise. Extremely fit, capable and dedicated. A bit of a wildcat
[MONTGOMERY(SCOTTY) SCOTT] -28-32 a brilliant ship’s engineer. Must be able to do a flawless Scottish accent!

The big news though, is that Spock has been cast and it’s Zachary Quinto from Heroes. I don’t know much about him as I don’t watch Heroes, but I’ve been told it’s good and it’s on my to-do list. I’ll report back if I ever get round to watching it. He looks the part though.
I think this film is going to be good!

Heroes is a blast.

Do you mean it’s good fun as opposed to being good?

Because fun negates good? It’s not exactly ’serious business’, but it does do fun very well. Good show
And Chekov has also been cast. It’s this guy ->

No fun doesn’t negate good but it is usually used to describe something that’s not very good but is entertaining all the same.

Again a good likeness with Chekov.
