Dimension Films (a part of the Weinstein company), who traditionally distribute genre films, have acquired the rights to remake the 1986 film Short Circuit. Original creators S.S. Wilson and Brent Maddock are on board to write the script.

I have a place in my heart for this film from my childhood but I wonder why anyone feels there is a need to re-make it. Co-chairman Bob Weinstein feels it is a worthy addition to their family film slate which has previously contained the Spy Kids movies.
