Johnny Depp as the Joker

Yes we’ve gone Batman mad here at BifSniff, well, us and half the blogoshpere.
So Eoin was telling me about the rumour Depp might step into the role of the Joker… but really I only posted this to see what kind of traffic it would lead here. 
Back when I did a quick photoshop of Heath Ledger as ledger when he first got cast we got deluged with traffic, and one of the images got used on loads of blogs because it ranked well in Google images. Pretty funny seeing as all i did was change the oclour of his face hair and lips - others were out there doing massive amounts of excellent photoshop work and probably didn’t get half as much exposure
So here we go again with Frank’s two minute photoshop jobs. Of course this time I have the benefit of Nolan’s Joker already being available to work from. Ok, so I spent more than two minutes on it, but I’m not admitting that here.
Anyway, these Johny Depp to play Joker rumours are, I’m sure, just that. Rumours. Surely nobody could possibly be discussing how to fill the void left by Heath Ledger’s untimely death already? Besides, wouldn’t it be weird with Depp already possibly being one of the actors finishing ledger’s role in a Gilliam movie? And anyway, Depp? Don’t get me wrong I love Depp, but he lacks grit…
I don’t think I’ve ever liked him in a serious film that didn’t play on his otherworldliness. The problem is that otherworldliness tends to be rather nice - like Edward Scissorhands, or Finding Neverland, or Willy Wonka or even the most excellent Dead Man.
The kind of ‘normal’ films I can think of:
Secret Window - awful
Ninth Gate - awful
Blow - hard to take him seriously as a drug dealer
Donnie Brasco - eeeehhh.. wasn’t gritty enough
On the other hand, maybe Nolan could make it work if he finds a way to use that otherworldliness like Gilliam did in Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas say.
In other rambling news, because I don’t keep up much with what’s going on in either world of films or comics anymore, I’m not quite sure what the story is with Lee Bermejo’s Joker - did the film use Bermejo’s visualisation of the Joker, or did Bermejo decide to use the Nolan type Joker for hisnext project or what?
Update: Another pic here, which was done prior to the film, but as concept sketch, or based on the rumours, or co-incidental or what? Anyone?

depp is an amazin actor…
iv always said my fav actors are/were
1# Gary Oldman
2# Johnny Depp
3# Heath Ledger
this is because they were all “actor’s actors”
people that realy immersed themselves into the roles that played…
Depp could do it hands down
swear to god.. i see it in him…
never under estimate
i mean look at ledger in TDK!! he dont look or talk like himself…
okay.. mayby when he talks at harveys party, he may sound abit like himself… but other than that…. its a total new person…
as for the depp and the Fear & Loathing in Las Vegas depp immersed himself perfectly…. and i mean PERFECTLY….
it can be done…
but my feeling that it wont happen ….
mayby the series will end kinda like the batman begins movies
just a callin card… or mayby a camo.. (i.e. DEPP as joker)
even if depp did play the joker
it would and only could be
depp playing as HEATH LEDGER’S JOKER!!!

Ya, whoever plays the Joker in future Nolan movies would have to play Ledger’s Joker. I don’t think they’ll bring him back though.

Depp is not an amazing actor, he’s not horrible but he’s no joker or Heath Ledger. Having him play the joker would be horrible and dishonoring to Heath. from what i hear all depp cares about is American money & not America. the joker is an American story and should be played by someone who is respectable, like Heath Ledger was & is.
