Wolverine to be directed by Tsotsi’s Gavin Hood

The X-Men spin off Wolverine has been handed to director Gavin Hood, who won the Best Foreign Language Film Oscar for Tsotsi back in 2005.

wolverine3.jpgI’m really looking forward to this as I have always felt that everything good about the X-Men franchise revolved around Wolverine. Yes, Ian McKellin’s Magnito was great, but when it came to the main story it was all Wolverine for me. I loved the first one and especially the Wolverine/Rogue story-line. The way Rogue got pushed aside in X2 hurt the franchise as far as I’m concerned and Bryan Singer‘s departure from X3 was the final nail in the coffin. Hence the spin-offs! (Magneto is getting his own film too)

While I haven’t seen any of Hood’s work I’m not happy about this choice. I would have loved to see Bryan Singer come back for the Wolverine film. I think a foreign director making his first big Hollywood film would have been a good choice for Magneto, but for Wolverine they needed Bryan Singer back in his X-Men form.

Still, Hugh Jackman is staring and people seem happy about the choice of Gavin Hood so hopefully it’ll be as good as I want it to be.
