Mr Amperduke cover feedback…
April 26th, 2007 by Frank
Bob, over at Clamnuts, has been working on the cover for his silent masterpiece Mr Amperduke. He posted some mock up covers to solicit feedback, and of course I couldn’t resist throwing my oar in.
I’ve stuck my suggestions on to the end of Bob’s mock ups above, I edited Bob’s no.3 and no.6, as the two I feel have the most potential.
No.3 is the most eye catching which I think is important, and no.6 has class which is another good way to go.
I took the eye catchingness of no.3, gave it the vibrant brick colour from no.1 and the solid composition of the brick in no.2 – so my first edit is really a combination of all three in Bob’s top row.
My other edit is just his no.6 simplified as I felt it needed to be more confident in itself.
Head over and let Bob know what you think yourself!

The red one does it for me Frank. More distinctive and stands out more.

That was my initial reaction too Martin. The classy approach has a quiet confidence going for it, but given the mad story within, I think the eye catching one is probably better.
You should go over to Clamnuts and let Bob know what you think…

3 with the grey brick?

I like 6 more than 3 mainly for its simplicity, although simplicity really doesn’t make bookcovers sell more copies. Regardless, both covers are visually appealing, although 6 does tend to rock my socks more!

Yeah…maybe not…
The brick in 6 on 3 maybe…I’d have to see it…

I’m loving your 6. Thanks Frank. I don’t suppose you feel like drawing the rest of the book for me?

If I could clone myself to do the work of three men the way you seem to be able to I’d offer to help…!

I can’t f*cking believe it,
I was planning on doing the exact same thing as you did with that simple confident cover. literally. Exactly the same thing.
I think he should go with that one, it’s the one that’ll make people pick it up and look inside. The others will probably cause people to make up their minds before even picking it up.

Funny… we haven’t been in each others vicinity enough to notice it recently but remember when that kind of thing used to happen all the time…
Good point about the intrigue factor…
