March 17th, 2006 by admin

By mid-afternoon, Paddy was ready to fight anyone who tried to perpetuate offensive stereotypes about the Irish.

I actually managed to throw up a few notes on the cartoon this week!

Nice Drawing Frank, but that’s actually my Dad’s head.

It does actually look remarkably like him.

This is sooo funny, I rolled on the floor laughing and sent the link to all my friends. I do have say, it’s kinda fscked up when a stupid accident of genetics made me look very much like that guy in the cartoon; which I do. It would be even funnier if a non-trivial number of people didn’t actually treat me as if I’m about to turn into that guy, any second.

Most of the time it’s entertaining or absurd, but in a few cases, it has actually cost me dearly in job interviews or negotations. People’s facial expressions are sooo transparent, and one can tell when you’ve been assessed as an axe murderer, despite the master’s degree, the resume, and great credit rating sitting right in front of them. When it’s most blatent, I just have to sigh and write them off.

Today, most people are not that way, but even one situation tends to feel like too many when you’re the target. And forget it if you’re 52 and interviewing for a job where the manager is 34. Ageism is massively rampant in our culture and probably the only prejudice to actually give our African American brothers and sisters a run for the title of most stereotyped.

Editorials aside, I probably have two choices: 1. Go firebomb embassies for printing cartoons like this or 2. Get the cartoon on some t-shirts and wear ‘em to keep laughing at ourselves and promote the great BifSniff! I guess it’s just the tireless work of education that every minority class faces, even after literal centuries of assimilation.

So, to our many brother and sister minority groups, your Irish brothers and sisters can relate! Perhaps the next time you see that Middle Aged Angry White guy wandering in Walmart — especially in California, where whites *know* we’re 48% and dropping — pause for just a second and ponder, “Oh shit! What if ‘The Man’ is one of us, too!?” Believe me, the true white pricks stayed in the trailer parks out in the hills, where they are thankfully, increasingly cut off and dying out. Most of the White Minority came to California because we don’t like the rednecks any more than you do! Fsck those redneck bastards! :)
Most of all, in the spirit of the Mighty Mind of Carlos Mencia, the King of Stereotype Skewering, thank you for the great cartoons and keep up the good work!

Hope to be able to order any BifSniff cartoon on t-shirts, soon.

Very good boys! Really funny-the best for ages. And amazingly accurate too.

I went out and drowned the shamrock on Paddy’s Day. I watched the Parade and got drunk on stout and then attacked the bouncers in the Old Oak who wouldn’t let me in because they said I was too drunk; ponces-what do they know? Now I’ve a court appearance to look forward to and probably a suspended sentence but begorra it was worth it.

I think you could say there’s a bit of this Paddy character in all of us and once a year it does good to let him free. Erin go bragh!
