Irish Election Political Cartoons
January 3rd, 2007 by Bif
Green Ink, who himself is now running his editorial cartoons on Irish Election, singled out one of the strips we did for them as his favourite political cartoon of 2006. Which, you’ve got to say, is kind of nice. We did a few of them before the workload got to be too much for Frank and, well, I kind of miss them. There’s still the Top Chumps project but that’s kind of faltered too. Though it will be back once we’ve recovered from Christmas and the New Year.
This particular cartoon was a reference to Michael McDowell being announced as Tanaiste. There had been talk of a leadership challenge within the PD ranks for months before Mary Harney resigned. Once she’d gone there were supposedly three candidates for the job - Tom Parlon, Liz O’Donnell and McDowell - but everyone knew who’d get it. After that the Tanaiste post was a mere formality but you just know that Big Mac sups his morning coffee out of a ‘World’s Best Tanaiste’ mug.
