I for one am very pleased to see Torres arriving. I’d still sign Owen too, but I’d imagine it’ll be wingers and maybe another center-back before Benitez looks into that transfer.

Either way I expect Torres to Liverpool, Garcia to Athletico, and Cisse to Marseille to go through next week. It’s all good on the Liverpool Attack front!

From what I read of it, we’ve agreed the fee. Athletico are interested in Garcia but it’s a totally seperate deal. I don’t think we’re depedent on Cisse being sold for Torres but we’ll probably need to offload him if we want to follow up on others. Unless, of course, the yanks are true to their word and will back Rafa whatever he wants.

It’s just a matter of selling Cisse now, and maybe Garcia, before we wrap up the Torres deal.

Yes it’s looking like Athletico are softening their stance but there are plenty that could have called a halt to the deal. Not least because they need to be seen to be doing everything to keep him, which could price him out of the market.

I don’t think anything can stop this transfer now. Torres has hung in there at Athletico for as long as he can. Not even any UEFA Cup football means the club aren’t going in the right direction. The cash from Torres’s sale - and possibly the effect of the departure of the star player - could be just what Athletico need?
