The tecniques used for this workshop are drawn from the experience of
the teachers through the work they did with Jacques LeCoq.
Here is a bit of info about the course:
Acting for Camera: From stage to screen
17th – 30th August 2008 (10 days of training)
This workshop is designed to train the actor in techniques that have
been developed specifically for film or TV acting. A fine-tuning
experience that enables the actor to find and give a true performance
for the camera without distortion or exaggeration.
We will be working with:
• Physical Listening & the Senses.
• Script Work, Cold Reading & Analysis of Text.
• Fundamental Techniques for acting for the camera.
• Character’s Inner Voice.
• Character through Action.
• Rehearsing and Taking Direction.
• Working on Set.
• Creating your own filmed work.
This innovative approach is performance led and allows the actor to be
a fully creative artist and not just an interpreter of text.
Throughout the workshop participants follow a series of specially
crafted exercises leading to working in front of the camera (on set).
During the course an ambience of teamwork is created allowing actors
to work together in a creative way.
This workshop is about empowering the actor which has great value for
the participants and often leads them into professional work in the
film industry.
“Coming from a performing background we realized that the actor’s
power was being overlooked and more often that not was only being used
as a cog in a machine. Drawing on the training we received in Paris
from Lecoq (teacher to Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush, European actor of
the year 2000 Sergi Lopez and Steven Berkoff) we took these principals
of dramatic/comic creation and developed them specifically for the
techniques of Acting
for Camera.”
Simon Edwards on the ‘Acting for Camera’ workshop.

sessions happen. The house has also a swimming pool, which is enjoyed
during the breaks on hot days. (Its a BEAUTIFUL PLACE believe you
me!).

‘Star Struck’ is the story of two 15 yr old girls from Limerick who

PROJECTS
This project is in collaboration with the Health Promotion Unit of
the HSE in Bray. Specifically with the Breastfeeding Awareness
Steering Committee who have commissioned this for Breastfeeding
Awareness Week the 1st week in October…Quite a coup for Arts and
Health from our less than progressive Health Service !
Some of the workshops will involve working with Mums who have
experienced difficulties with BF’ing and also those who have chosen
not to BF at all. Their stories and experiences will form the basis of
the devised piece of work and will be performed to Health
Professionals, Ante Natal Classes, Community Groups etc. using Forum
Theatre Format which involves ‘audience participation ‘.. The aim is
to raise awareness and address issues around the low rate of BF’ing
and the reasons women either give up early or choose not to.
I would like younger M and F actors because there is also an element
of promoting BF’ing to your age group…and to men..!
This all sounds very serious I know, but it will be a very interesting
process and I’d like the work to be lighthearted and a bit of fun
whilst addressing the problems. It does mean though that the actors
must be willing to engage in the process with the Mums and the subject
matter.
Workshops will be held weekly probably in the Dun Laoghaire area,
times and day TBC
If you are interested please contact Marie McNamara at: playright@eircom.net
