Partner Acrobatics and Acroyoga workshops
Discover Acroyoga on the Saturday 21st of June and Sunday 22nd of June
in Craven House. the Claddagh.

AcroYoga blends the spiritual wisdom of yoga, the loving kindness of
Thai massage, and the dynamic power of Acrobatics. These three ancient
lineages form the foundation of a unique new practice that cultivates
trust, connection and playfulness. Our highest aim is to bring
individuals into a state of union with themselves, with each other,
and with the divine. From this place of mutual support the true self
can be realized, honored and shared for the benefit of all.more info
www.acroyoga.org

A typical AcroYoga session starts with an opening circle, in which
participants connect by moving and breathing together. Then, the group
moves through a series of Asanas or yoga poses to warm up, before
flowing into partner work. People can bring their own practice
partners, or they can meet up with people at the AcroYoga session.
Partner routines incorporate stretches which require two people,
building a connection and trust before moving onto the next stage of
the session, inversions.

Inversions are exactly what they sound like; poses in which a
participant is upside down. In some cases, both partners are inverted,
and in all instances participants support each other through these
challenging poses. Inversions are meant to bring out a sense of
playfulness, and also to encourage people to look at the world in a
new way. After building trust with inversions, the session moves on to
partner acrobatics, including flying, in which one partner remains on
the ground as a base to support the other in an aerial position.
Finally, the session ends with Thai massage, which is intended to
stimulate the balance of energy while honoring the partnership which
was built during the session.

This style of partner yoga can be very demanding, but classes are
offered at all levels of difficulty. As a general rule, people are
asked to have some familiarity and confidence with headstands,
although this is not required.

Marjolene and Leigh are experienced acrobats living in the
Netherlands. they currently perform together in two shows and teach
regularly in and around Amsterdam. more info

About Commedia dell’Arte
Commedia dell’Arte is a deeply physical and percussive improvisational
style of theatre that goes deep into the core of a story, explodes it
from the inside and presents it in a show of grotesque fun and
heartfelt intensity. The style is at once extreme and truthful, tragic
and deeply funny. Over the past ten years, The Corn Exchange’s
evolving, renegade take on Commedia continues to challenge and
invigorate actors, and excite audiences at home and abroad.

This workshop explores physical approaches to creating characters,
mask work, ensemble play and improvisation. Always exhilarating, it
deeply challenges the multi-layered tasks and skills of the actor.

SNATCH COMEDY IMPROV & Cork Midsummer Festival presents

SNATCH COMEDY: UNCUT & EXTENDED

Cork Arts Theatre
Monday 16 – Saturday 21 June, 9:30pm
Tickets €15/€12

Snatch Comedy have been stretching the limits of skill and
inventiveness for six years. Now, for the first time ever in Cork,
they will improvise an entire play! There is no safety net, and you,
the audience, are the catalyst. A different show every night, this is
improvisation as you’ve never seen it before! Snatch Comedy’s
“short-form” improv and sketch shows have earned them huge popularity
over the years. This new style is one they have developed themselves
specially for the Cork Midsummer Festival. The group will use quick
wits and skill to make up the show with no rehearsal whatsoever.

There will be thrills — and there may be spills — as they juggle ideas
and make entertainment out of chaos. Will it be sad? Terrifying?
Romantic? Fantastic? Nothing is certain until the moment it happens.

“Snatch Comedy are surreally inclined, daftly imaginative and gifted
people… This is the most truly interactive and happening comedy in
Ireland now” Cork Now
