Theatre Shows
——————————————————————————————————————
Given the success we decided to extend our dates in Ireland:
“BOXETTE - THE CLOWN SHOW” will be shown again in Cork:
DATES: Wednesday 30 July & Wednesday 6th of August.
TIME: 8:30pm
VENUE: Crane Lane Theatre, Phoenix Street, Cork
TICKETS: 8 € at the door
“Boxette”, a clown show with Carlo Jacucci, Pedro Pires Pinto and Kosei Yakuwa.
Three clowns stage their version of the Swann Lake. Suzette Ballett,
old star of the Russian ballet, plays a princess. She employs the
clown Botticelli as assistant, coach, referee, body guard, musician,
and the clown Mohamed-Ali-Gâteaux to play the prince. But in fact this
will hijack any attempt to stage the story.
This epic tale drifts to a catastrophic cascade of events. Nothing is
what it is supposed to be, and what is supposed to be fails at the
attempt of being something. Between dance, music, magic and
choreographed fight, the only thing that prevails is the fun of
disrupting any expectation. It doesn’t matter if the announced show
has never started. Tonight the fun is bigger than ourselves. Tonight
we found something better.
THE COMPANY
The Gazpacho Brothers was founded in 2007 by a group of artists from
Portugal, Japan, Italy and Spain, who met at the Ecole Philippe
Gaulier in Paris. The company was created with the intention of
pursuing the European tradition of clown in its classical and
traditional forms. The company’s approach is founded on the teaching
of Philippe Gaulier, a great teacher of this genre.*
Boxette has been created with the artistic consultancy of Pablo
Ibarluzea and Ruth Garreta.
*Philippe Gaulier will teach a workshop in Dublin from 14 to 18 April
2009. Please call 0833 480 474 or 0872 645 074 for more information

Directed by Fionn Woodhouse
Producer Caolán Gibbons
Starring Stefanie Preissner
Granary Theatre | 30th July - 1 st Aug| 8pm | €10 / €5
“THE SHAPE OF A GIRL is loosely based on the Reena Virk Story: the
real life tragedy of a 14-year-old girl killed by a boy and a group of
girls, also teenagers. Braidie is fascinated by a TV news story about
a girl accused of a shocking act of violence, “a monster in the shape
of a girl”. A different kind of girl from her and her friends…or is
she? Propelled by memories she can’t forget and scenes from her past
she can no longer ignore, Braidie must confront the truth of her
giddy, terrifying teenage world.
Can she find the courage to break her friends’ conspiracy of silence
when their bullying of a classmate goes too far?
Written by one of Canada’s most respected authors, Governor General’s
Award winner Joan MacLeod, The Shape of a Girl is a dynamic one-woman
show that looks at the realities of teenage relationships, aggression
and codes of behaviour.”

Workshop
———————————————————————————————————————————
Multilevel Communication, trance and Improv!
A short workshop introducing ideas of multilevel communication and
trance within Improv. We explore ideas of pacing and leading, careful
use of sensory based language, and stacking levels of reality. A
little bit of theory, some new games.
I asked Keith Johnstone a little bit about this stuff when he was over
last. He knew a lot about it. There’s a lot of literature on these
ideas, and it underlies a lot of human behaviour (it comes originally
from psychology/therapeutic work).
Date, time and place to be confirmed soon.
If you are interested in participating of this workshop please contact
Finn McLeod at: finnolaf@gmail.com

Physical Theatre Practitioner Needed
Animated State Dance Theatre Company is interested in working with
performance practitioners working in the fields of physical theatre
and visual art. The creation of a new work will begin in January 2009
and will take as its starting point, the poem of Wallace Stevens
“Thirteen Ways of Looking at a Blackbird”.
The creative process leading to the creation of this interdisciplinary
performance of dance, theatre and live art will emphasise a
collaborative approach throughout the research and development and the
devising period. The Creative Team - to include the visual/performance
artist, physical theatre practitioner, dancers, musicians, composer
and designers - will be based in Waterford during the devising process
and will meet on a regular basis throughout the pre production phase.
Background
Animated State presents original, groundbreaking and accessible dance
within a contemporary dance theatre paradigm. This initiative fills a
gap in the national provision of professional contemporary dance
opportunities in the southeast, providing a platform for dance artists
to explore and develop technical, performance and dance making skills.
Animated State’s artistic policy embraces a collaborative
interdisciplinary approach with a commitment to excellence in
performance.
Animated State’s choreographic approach is a combination of work from
Artistic Director Libby Seward, individual dance artists and companies
and international guest choreographers. Within a contemporary dance
theatre paradigm, the work embraces a variety of dance styles and art
forms. Throughout 2006 and 2007 theatre and street performances have
showcased the work created and mentored by this initiative, bringing
together professional and student dancers.
Dance: a unique and vital art form.
Programming will build on Animated State’s reputation as a provider of
high quality work presented at regional festivals and at the inaugural
evening of “Innovations”, an eclectic programme exploring the creative
energy generated between musicians, writers, film artists and dancers.
“Innovations” will be further developed during 2008 as a laboratory
for the creation of new works. A dance for film project involving a
film artist, musicians and composer resident in the southeast as yet
in pre production will enter the production phase.
Furthermore, the creation of a new work by the company that will tour
to venues in Ireland in May 2009 will bring national attention to
Waterford’s role in establishing dance as an art form. These initial
plans will feed into the establishment of an annual Dance Festival
hosting professional companies, workshops, master classes and
seminars.
If interested please contact asap: Libby Seward at wydmoves@hotmail.com
