Vanity, Vapours & Dizzy Debutantes
Ruth Draper delighted audiences with the characters she scripted and performed during a distinguished career of more than fifty years. Her astonishing single-handed achievements make her a legendary figure of 20th century theatre.
Vanessa Hyde and Call Back theatre have acquired the rights from The Draper Company, bringing Ruth’s material to Irish audiences for the first time.
Vanity, Vapours and Dizzy Debutantes has been devised and arranged by Mary Curtin and Vanessa Hyde and is a retrospective peak at the frivolous women of the 1930’s and 40’s personified in some of Ruth Draper’s classic character studies. You will meet The Dizzy Debutante as she ’shyly’ works the room at a ball! The chairwoman chairing a woman’s committee meeting where the topics up for discussion are of the utmost importance! A married couple’s ‘varied’ relationship with each other and their
breakfast as they travel from newly weds to their golden years A ladies luncheon where the topics of conversation are doctors, diets and very attractive turnips! The hostess at a ball as she reveals her ‘eclectic mixture’ of party guests. This promises to be an evening of humorous and sometimes poignant mini dramas about some dizzy women of the 1930’s and 40’s!
Please book early as seating is limited. Booking: 021 - 427 40 77

A comedy. Sort of…
Are you tender, fragile perhaps? Then be warned…
The tale that follows contains scenes of murder, betrayal, adultery, bisexuality, castration, fellatio, prostitution, pornography, male, female and vegetable sodomoy and at least six varieties of drug abuse…
…not forgetting psychological torture, epic battle of sexual wits, nudity, poverty, gambling, corruption, embezzlement, bribery,
political scandal, cannibalism, bigamy, necrophilia, organized crime and group sex.
Directed by Donal Gallagher.
A spine chilling, gothic tale of sex and death (though not necessarily in that order). From the company that brought you Bedbound (”completely brilliant”- The Irish Times) and Pondlife Angels ( “…always engaging and often superb…flawless control” - Fintan O’Toole).

Theatre Makers in association with Cork Midsummer Festival presents
“They Never Froze Walt Disney”, a chilling tale of romance, remorse and refrigeration in rural Ireland, written by Jody O’Neill and
directed by Jack Healy.
This black comedy spans the extraordinarily ordinary lives of two characters, Marie and Paudie, from the 1960’s to the present day. A compelling, witty and often moving piece, “They Never Froze Walt Disney” flashes between the early stages of Marie and Paudie’s
relationship and the unusual circumstances under which they encounter one another again, many years later.
Running from the 25th to the 30th June at 1pm daily in the Unitarian Church, Princes Street (beside the English Market). Tickets priced ten euro (eight euro concession) can be booked online at www.festivalbooking.net or by phone on 021 4274077.
