Drama Podcasts from Cork?

April 25th, 2007 by Frank

The Irish Playwrights and Screenwriters Guild Blog linked to an article in the Guardian about podcasting reviving Radio Drama.

I didn’t read it or anything. But it’s full of tasty links to sites that do drama podcasts which I intend to look at sometime and never will.

I meant to ask Hammergrin, ages go, if they had thought about doing drama podcasts - I’ve read some of their comedy writing for radio and was duly impressed. Perfect for podcasts. Cast me, cast me…

No bother, and yeah, you’re perfect candidates…

I was actually thinking about doing Death’s New Lease On Life as a podcast/audio book. Figured it might be a nice format to get attention but never quite convinced myself it was worthwhile. Perfect delivery method for radio plays though.

Could work really well, you’d have to figure out the mechanics for getting maximum exposure…

I haven’t looked into podcasts enough, but Tom R should have a few leads…

First person I asked. The cost of doing it to the standard I’d want could be prohibitive but it’s certainly worth looking at.

    Really?

What costs are we talking about?

There’s be a lot of man hours for someone to record, edit, upload, maintain and market but you could do all that yourself.

Then you have possibly the cost of some recording equipment or rental of - but I’d say you could do this with minidisc and good mic…

Then you have, potentially, the cost of a reader..

    Am I missing anything?

Foley, I’d want it to be more than just somebody reading the thing. Hosting, I assume, would be another issue. It all adds up really.

  8. Frank (author) Says:

Hosting - of course. D’oh. Might be ways around that depending on how tightly you wanted to hold on to the rights… swings and roundabouts though.

    Did you mean Firstly?

  9. Bif Says:

No I meant Foley, sound effects type stuff.

  10. Frank (author) Says:

That makes sense. I only made the Allen Foley association for some bizarre reason.
